Today in music history

This day in music history: October 19th 1974 Billy Preston goes to #1 with Nothing From Nothing. The upbeat tap-along showcased a combination of Billy's ragtime and gospel chops. A year earlier he topped the charts with "Round In Circles."

Today in music history

Today in music history on October 13th, 1966 The Jimi Hendrix Experience was created in London. With singer-songwriter and guitarist Jimi Hendrix, bassist Noel Redding and drummer Mitch Mitchell, the band was active until June 1969, in which time the group released three successful studio albums.

Widely recognized as hugely influential on the development of hard rock and heavy meta...l in the late-1960s and beyond, The Experience were best known for the skill, style and charisma of frontman Hendrix, who is considered by many as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. All three of the band's studio albums, Are You Experienced (1967), Axis: Bold as Love (1967) and Electric Ladyland (1968), were featured in the Rolling Stone list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time - each within the top 100. In 1992, The Jimi Hendrix Experience were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Purple Haze is perhaps the most popular Experience song---and even after almost 50 years--is still far from cliche. (source-varied).

Today in music history

Today in music history in 1965, The Supremes made their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. For those of you who don't know. (Although I'd be surprised if you didn't) Ed Sullivan was what David Letterman or Jay Leno is today. Once you made it onto the Ed Sullivan Show you knew you were on your way. Ed Sullivan opened the doors for household names like Elvis and The Beatles, as well as numerous comedians.

Today in music history...

Today in music back in 1984 - Prince's track "Let's Go Crazy" hit No. 1. He then held the No. 1 single, album and film simultaneously. The only other band/musician to do this was The Beatles. What would John Lennon say?

Today in music history...

Today in music histroy in 1997 - VH1 aired "Storytellers" live for the first time. The show was a 90 minute special featuring Elton John from the House of Blues in New Orleans, LA. To this day, this is still one of my favorite shows (on VH1).

He's one of my favorites featuring Pearl Jam, doing there classic "Alive"
